Colorado Legislature to Force LGBT Education

Picture
Parents who have signed off on school permission slips for their children to participate in the pre-adolescent human sexuality curriculum at Colorado public schools, expecting their children to be learning basic human sexuality related to reproduction, should have their eyes wide open at what  has been introduced and is under serious consideration in the Colorado General Assembly.
HB19-1032 is sponsored by Democrats Rep. Susan Lontine and Senator Nancy Todd as well as Republican Senator Don Coram. The bill “prohibits instruction from explicitly or implicitly….employing gender norms or gender stereotypes, or excluding the relational or sexual experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender individuals.”

Picture a classroom of 12-year-olds being forced to sit and be presented with curriculum developed from a wide variety of special interests on the “relational or sexual experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender individuals.” This state-mandated curriculum turns reproductive science class into explicit descriptions of sexual activities that have nothing to do with reproduction or science. What does it mean to be prohibited to instruct on “gender norms?” Does that mean that a traditional family composed of a mother and father and children produced through human sexuality is now taboo in the human sexuality classroom? On the one hand the bill PROHIBITS “gender norms” yet also PROHIBITS the exclusion of relational or sexual experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender individuals. Think about that.

If you’re confident that the State Board of Education, your school or school board would opt out of it or grant waivers, think again. That wouldn’t be allowed because the bill prohibits the state board of education from waiving the content requirements for any public school that provides comprehensive human sexuality education.

And the “oversight board” (think Civil Rights Commission that was scolded by the US Supreme Court for its abusive treatment of Jack Phillips) that oversees the sexual education curriculum statewide will “add 8 representatives to the oversight entity and require membership of the oversight entity to be comprised of at least 7 members who are members of groups of people who have been or might be discriminated against.” Though the bill doesn’t specify, one would not expect heterosexual, traditional-family-advocating individuals to be part of that 8-representative board (despite being increasingly targeted) or to represent traditional biology-based curriculum.

Children and adults should not be preyed upon because of who they are or their lifestyle choices that do not infringe on the liberty of others or break the law. Neither should an agenda seeking to turn basic human reproduction education into a picture show for a full gamut of sexual preferences curriculum on all pre-adolescents and adolescents be forced into the classroom.

If you are opposed to this bill and want the Colorado General Assembly to oppose this bill, PLEASE contact your legislators. (contact information here: house reps, senators) Without strong, forceful and immediate opposition from a great number of Colorado Citizens, this bill will easily pass through the House Appropriations Committee (it has already passed the Health and Insurance Committee), and the full House as well as the Senate Committees and the full Senate. There is also little question that the bill would be signed by Governor Polis.

The time is now to act. It will be too late once the bill becomes law. At that point, it will be very unlikely that citizens will be able to effect a repeal, short of major upheavals and nearly insurmountable odds of successful recalls.
